A 13-month-old girl has died after her mother accidentally struck her daughter while repositioning a car near their Arizona home, authorities said.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the home on Western Drive in Cottonwood Thursday morning after receiving a 911 call from the mother reporting that she “had run over her 13-month-old baby with her car.” , according to a press release.

The car was parked in a gravel area near the house and the mother was trying to get it out of a tight spot. She told police that she thought she had placed her daughter in the car seat at a safe distance.

“While repositioning the vehicle, the front tire caught the car seat canopy, causing it to fall backwards, resulting in serious injuries to the infant,” the sheriff’s office said.

The boy, who has not been identified by police, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

“Medical personnel were performing life-saving measures on the infant when the YCSO arrived, but despite their heroic efforts, the infant was pronounced dead at Verde Valley Medical Center,” the sheriff’s office said.

It is not known at this time if the mother will be charged in connection with her daughter’s death.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
