A teacher from Misiones, winner of the Inspiring Teachers award

The award Teachers who inspire, initiative of Clarion and Zurich, closed its third edition with a special program, in which the stories and educational projects of the six finalist teachers were the protagonists. They were chosen from among 2,000 applications from the 24 districts of the country.

In the program, which was hosted by Federico Seeber and Paula García and which was broadcast on Saturday on TN, the names of those who received the $5,000,000 in prizes distributed by the contest were revealed.

The first selection, of 24 semi-finalists, was made by a committee of the Varkey Foundation. In a next stage, the jury made up of specialists from the Conciencia Association, the Cimientos Foundation, Enseñá por Argentina, Proyecto Educar 2050, Argentinos por la Educación and the Noble Foundation chose the six finalists.

The verdict was ruled by Melina Furman, Beatriz Hall, Marcela Noble Herrera, Guillermina Tiramonti, Diego Golombek, Manuel Alvarez Tronge, María Marta García Negroni, Pablo Jacovkis, Gabriela Azar, Agustín Porres, Paola del Bosco, Victor Volman and Carlos Tramutola.

So, Viviana Yommi won the award for Inspirational Teacher of the Year and received 3,000,000 pesos to enhance his work. She stands out for her work in the field of special education, in the Esperanza Institute of Puerto Iguazú, in the province of Misiones. It promotes different initiatives aimed at helping its students develop their full potential. Promotes student participation in sporting and cultural events at the local, national and international level. In addition, at the school they have garden projects together with the Iriapu native community and job inclusion programs for their former students in different hotels and businesses in Iguazú.

“All of the award finalists are unique and could have been chosen as Inspirational Teacher of the Year, for all the incredible work that each of them does with their students and their community. For me, this award means an opportunity to show society that nothing is impossible; that the abilities of my students will always be greater than any of their disabilities,” added Viviana, who has with more than 30 years of experience.

On the other hand, teachers Paula Aguilar and Leonardo Amarilla received a special mention of $1,000,000 each. Paula is from Guaymallen, Mendoza, and is a primary school teacher. Her work stands out for employing a pedagogical approach to literacy, focused on didactic play and bonding, thus personalizing teaching for each student.

In turn, Leonardo is from San Roque, Corrientes, and dreams of a “classroom without walls”. For this reason, he takes his students to learn biology in nature and develops various projects aimed at enhancing scientific capabilities from the Field work.

In addition, during the program the other three finalists were recognized: Sergio Aguilar, who created a technological laboratory for his students to make robots from electronic waste in Villa Soldati; to Laura Hernández, August 30, in the province of Buenos Aires, who, through her projects, managed to transform the educational practices of her school; and José Caro, who promotes different initiatives with community and environmental impact at his school in Villa Regina, in Río Negro.
