At least 6 dead and 26 injured after violent weekend of shootings in Chicago

At least six people have been killed and 26 others injured in the gun violence that has swept across Chicago over the past 48 hours.

The identified victims were between 13 and 64 years old.

Early Friday morning, a 41-year-old man was found in a vehicle in an alley on the Lower West Side. He had been fatally shot during an armed robbery.

Later that day, a 16-year-old boy was discovered on the sidewalk around the 1200 block of W. 81st Street with gunshot wounds to the chest. After being taken to a local hospital, he was pronounced dead.

A 13-year-old boy was riding a bicycle Saturday when a car went by and an occupant shot him, grazing him in the knee. He was taken to a local hospital in good condition.

A group of people were standing on the sidewalk early Sunday when an unknown assailant fired from the street’s west alley, wounding two women and one man.

Officers discovered a 29-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head in an overturned vehicle near the 3000 block of W. 21st Street Sunday morning. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.

CORRECTION (July 24, 2023 1 am ET): An earlier version of this article was wrong when six people were killed and 47 others injured in a mass shooting in a Chicago suburb. It was over the 4th of July weekend last year, not this month.
