Built in 2021, an annex to the Moisés Broggi remains empty and unused

In 2021, in the midst of a pandemic, Catalonia inaugurated five buildings attached to five other major hospitals, initially to expand beds and services, especially for seriously ill patients.

The hospitals were Bellvitge Hospital, Germans Trias i Pujol (popularly Can Ruti, in Badalona), the Arnau deVillanova (Lleida), the Father and Virgil (from Barcelona) and the Moses Broggi (Sant Joan Despi). But the latter is currently empty and does not treat any patients for lack of health personnel.

And it is that the drop in flu and covid cases has not managed to decongest the hospital, according to medical sources explained to this newspaper, in the emergency room of Broggi these days there were nurses who had each to 22 patients in the emergency department.

It is precisely these patients, who have to be transferred to the ward, who cannot and must wait in the emergency room. And all this while the Broggi Satellite Hospitalwhich was built in 2021 to relieve covid congestion, remains completely empty and without patients, due to insufficient staff.

Unions and doctors already informed during the lack of doctors and nurses, regardless of the number of satellite hospitals built. That it was pointless to build new infrastructure if there were no hands. And that is precisely what is happening.

In this episode, we chat with El Periódico journalist Beatriz Pérez, health and sanitation specialist.
