The threat of the Super League has forced UEFA to make a move. The UEFA Executive Committee met this Wednesday in Paris and approved its ‘United for Success’ strategy from 2024 to 2030. The clubs participating in the Champions League will see their income increase.
UEFA has established a threshold of 4.8 billion euros (500 million more) for men’s club competitions between 2024 and 2027. Of the total revenues, 3,317 million go to the clubs participating in European competitions: Champions, European Super Cup, Europa League, and Conference. Between the first two they take almost 75% of this income.
10% of the total (440 million) is allocated to solidarity. 308 million are allocated to non-participating clubs, and the rest goes to clubs in the qualifying rounds.
These amounts will be distributed across three different pillars: equal shares (27.5%), performance pillar (37.5%) and value pillar (35%). The first two have increased by 2.5 and 7.5 percent respectively.
Compete with the Super League
Until now, the income that the Champions League provided for participating could not compete with the hypothetical Super League, which He assured 100 million as soon as he starteda difference of 15.64 million for participating in the Champions group stage.
But, as Laporta said in his interview on RAC1, Not even being champion of the Champions League can you reach those numbers: 9.6 million are received for reaching the round of 16, 10.6 for the quarterfinals, 12.5 for the semifinals and 15.5 for being a finalist. The champion, 20 million further. It must also be taken into account that UEFA gives 2.8 million for a victory and 930,000 euros for a draw.
The new figures
With the new UEFA strategy, all these prizes increase (except wins, which drop to 2.1): 19 million for participating, 11 to reach the round of 16, 12 to the quarterfinals, 15 to the semifinals, 20 to the final and 25 the champion. Whoever wins the trophy could go from the current approximately 85 million to around 155that they would reach the 200 with the market-pool and the ticket offices.
These measures could calm the forces of the Super Leaguethe objective that UEFA has been pursuing for years.
