The Ertzaintza and the Municipal Guard of San Sebastián will launch next Tuesday an “important” security device to prevent incidents before the Champions League match between Real Sociedad and PSG, declared “high risk”.
The foreseeable arrival of PSG fans to San Sebastián, along with the presence of thousands of local fans in the cityhas led both security forces to qualify the meeting in this way also due to its “international character.”
Officials from the Ertzaintza, the Municipal Guard, the Donostia City Council and the Royal Society established a series of measures this Thursday in a meeting “aimed at guaranteeing the security and ordinary functioning of the city throughout the day.”
As reported by the Basque Department of Security and the San Sebastian council in a joint note, the device will cover “the entire city” although “will mainly affect traffic flows” around the Reale Arena stadium, located in the Amara neighborhood, during the hours prior to the match.

In this context, the authorities have called to use public transport and to travel to the stadium with sufficient advance notice, while they have asked residents to take into account possible changes to daily routines.
Those responsible for security have asked citizens for collaboration “to avoid approaching the perimeter area as much as possible” and recommend “use alternative vials” in addition to “plan ahead” the itineraries they are going to take.
The security forces have recalled at the same time that “the Law against violence, racism, xenophobia and intolerance in sport prohibits the introduction, carrying or use of flares in sports venues and their surroundings”, although their use in public roads “can also be sanctioned by the Law on the Protection of Citizen Security, as long as they do not constitute a criminal offense.”
