Pep Guardiola, Manchester City coach, is disciplined with his former player Kalvin Phillipsfor a comment in which he said he was “overweight.”
The Catalan coach made this comment after Phillips returned from the World Cup in Qatar where he played with England and would be left out of a League Cup tie against Liverpool.
In an interview earlier this month, once Phillips confirmed his loan to West Ham United, the midfielder said that comment “affected his confidence.”
“I’m sorry. I apologize,” said Guardiola before facing Brentford this Tuesday.
Phillips arrived at City in the summer of 2022 in exchange for almost 50 million eurosbut he only played 31 games in all competitions in a season and a half.
The midfielder has gone on loan to West Ham, where he is not having much luck either. He has lost three of the four games in which he has played, scoring an own goal and was sent off in the last duel against Nottingham Forest.
