The sailor Manuel Florido becomes the absolute winner of the 38th AECIO Trophy after a last blank day due to the absence of wind that does not change the classifications compared to Friday. The gold medals of the six podiums up for grabs by Manuel Florido and Marta Mansito (under-16); Xuacu García and Lili Skomska (sub-13) and Alberto Medina and Alexandra Youji, in the sub-11 category, male and female, respectively, in all cases.

During the closing ceremony held this afternoon, the trophies of the AECIO Team Racing Series were also awarded, the team regatta that was held for the first time this year as a prelude to the AECIO Trophy, between December 20 and 23, and which RCNGC team 1 won.

For the first time this year, the absolute podium of the AECIO Trophy receives a gift thanks to the collaboration of three commercial firms, which in the case of the first place finisher is an Optimist helmet; a candle for the second, Gustavo del Castillo, and a gift voucher for the third place, Iker Mugica.

The silver medals in the different categories go to Gustavo del Castillo and Elsa Beijar (sub-16); Casper Ramm-Ericson and Alba Ponce (sub-13), and Pablo Medina and Martina Salas, in sub-11.

Iker Mugica and Lili Skomska won bronze in under-16; Ayoset Vega and Victoria Kruijtzer, in sub-13, and Enrique Giménez and Carla del Rosario, in sub-11 category, male and female respectively in all cases.

120 sailors from 12 clubs and 4 countries, 9 races held and three days of competition in the water with magnificent conditions is, roughly speaking, the balance of the 38th edition of the AECIO Trophy, organized by the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria and the Royal Canarian Sailing Federation.

The excellent conditions of the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for sailing have been evident again in this regatta, with three days of good wind from the southeast and a timid or non-existent wave, which allowed the two days of racing to be completed. classification and the first of the finals in a few hours.

The president of the RCNGC, Maica López Galán, presided over the trophy presentation ceremony, which took place this afternoon in the Dámaso Room of the RCNGC, and was attended by, among others, the Deputy Minister of Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Sabroso; the first deputy mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Pedro Quevedo; the vice president of the Royal Canarian Sailing Federation, Miguel del Rosario, members of the RCNGC board and representatives of the firms that have collaborated with this edition.

The president had words for both the sailors who have debuted in the regatta this year and for those who are saying goodbye, and thanked the collaboration of the large number of people who make it possible for the trophy to be held every year.

The club’s commodore, Alejandro Martín, for his part is happy for Manuel Florido’s victory, since it means that the absolute AECIO trophy returns to the RCNGC, after four years in which the victory went to sailors from other clubs.

A new edition of the AECIO Trophy has ended, the oldest regatta organized by the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria, an event that is much more than a sporting competition and that always has a bittersweet touch because it marks the farewell of the Optimist class of the boys and girls who turn 15 during the year of the trophy.

In the 38 years of history of the trophy, generations of sailors from different backgrounds have enjoyed the magic of the AECIO, which is explained both by the dates on which it is celebrated, in the middle of the Christmas holidays, and by the coexistence that is generated between children and girls from different backgrounds. These years, boys and girls from Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Valencia, Sweden, Switzerland and Great Britain have come to Gran Canaria. Also from different yacht clubs on the islands of Tenerife and Lanzarote.
