Netflix has greenlit a new sci-fi series produced by The Duffer Brothers, who created the streamer’s biggest hit Strange things. The new series is called the districts and will follow elderly people in a retirement home, who are faced with an otherworldly threat.

Addiss also writes about the new and highly anticipated The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim animated feature film, which is in the continuity of the Peter Jackson films. Addiss and Matthews will serve as showrunners for the series.

The Duffer brothers said in a statement:
“We’ve been fans of Jeff and Will’s writing for a long time, and when they pitched us their idea for the districts, we immediately knew they had something very special on their hands. Although the heroes of The Boroughs are a few years older than the children of Strange thingsThey’re an equally adorable bunch of misfits, and we can’t wait for you to join them on an adventure that’s by turns terrifying, funny, and deeply moving.”
Addiss and Matthews added:
“We are delighted to be back on Netflix. Working alongside the Duffer Brothers (who are pretty good at doing shows) and their crew has been a dream come true. They bring the perfect balance of heart and horror to our story. We can’t wait for audiences around the world to discover the dark mystery buried under the sunny facade of the districts.”
Strange things creators The Duffer Brothers will executive produce with Hilary Leavitt through her Netflix-based production company Upside Down Pictures.
His other upcoming Netflix projects include series adaptations of Death Note, and Stephen King’s the talisman. That’s on top of the fact that they’ll be producing and no doubt directing the upcoming fifth and final season of Strange things and being involved in various other projects within the universe.
