Follow our live coverage of the Oscar nominations 2024.
The 96th annual Academy Award nomination posed the season’s ultimate cinematic question: Is this the year of “Barbie” or “Oppenheimer?” We still don’t know very well, since each of them earned multiple nominations (“Barbie” with eight and “Oppenheimer” with 13). In any case, it will be another excuse to use the term “Barbenheimer”.
New York Times awards season columnist Kyle Buchanan had previously predicted that because of the amount of good movies and impressive talent we’ve had this past year, it was hard to say which movie, if any, was likely to sweep . in the big categories of best film, best director, best actor and best actress, and he was right. “Oppenheimer,” “Barbie,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “The Holdovers” and “Poor Things” all earned nominations in the best picture category and, for the most part, received nominations in every major category.
Here is the complete list of nominees.
