Rep. Henry Cuellar, a Democrat from Texas, was held up at gunpoint and his vehicle was stolen in Washington on Monday evening, according to his office. He was not harmed and police later recovered the vehicle.

Mr. Cuellar was parking on Monday at 9:30 p.m. in the Navy Yard neighborhood, about a mile from Capitol Hill, when three armed people approached him and stole his vehicle, said Jacob Hochberg, the congressman’s chief of staff. The Metropolitan Police Department and Capitol Police are investigating the crime, he said.

Mr. Cuellar’s iPad and iPhone were also stolen, Mr. Hochberg said. He did not say whether the devices had been recovered. The Navy Yard is an area south of the Capitol that is home to the stadium used by the Washington Nationals baseball team. It has been the site of a construction boom over the past decade, revitalizing the area near the Anacostia River.

Mr. Cuellar represents a portion of South Texas along the border with Mexico from Laredo to Rio Grande City that extends north to San Antonio.
