Salut invests 45 million euros to strengthen health centers in winter

The Ministry of Health of Catalonia will invest 45 million euros to strengthen primary schools, hospitals and social health centers during the winter, with the possibility of hire professionals for the colder months and more respiratory viruses.

The “Minister of Health”, Manel Balcells, and the Secretary of Public Health, Carmen Cabezas, presented this Tuesday at the CUAP Barracks in Barcelona on actions to improve response of the sanitary network to the increase in demand during the winter period, when pressure from the unions increased with the strike launched on 25 and 26 January.

He detailed that Salut multiplies by five the resources of the previous winter plan for the primary, increasing from 3.6 to 16 million. Balcells has ensured that this endowment is equivalent “on average one doctor, one nurse and one administrator per primary school”.

Depending on the situation of each centre, you may choose to allocate these resources to hire staff for the four winter months or to redistribute the workforce.

However, at a time of general lack of personnel in the market, andmostly doctors, Balcells did not specify how many temporary contracts would be achieved, because it is something that has been left in the hands of the autonomy of each center.

The new winter plan also allocates 16 million euros for hospital care and three million for socio-sanitary care.
