by The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, described Javier Milei’s mega DNU as “madness” and “disaster”, which deregulates the economy and modifies or repeals around 360 laws, in addition to accusing the libertarian of being “eliminating all rights” of the Argentine people.
“Look at the disaster in Argentina. Have you noticed? The madness! A dictatorial decree of the far-right neo-Nazi president of Argentina eliminating all rights of the peopleending the economic sovereignty of Argentina,” Maduro fired during an event broadcast on the state channel.
Criticism of Milei’s mega DNU transcended borders. After the Argentine president sent to Congress an omnibus law with extensive reforms in the State, the president of Venezuela reiterated that his part “comes from the extremist sectors of the United States.”
“Mr. Milei comes from the most extremist sectors of the United States of America, Trumpism and Zionism,” said Maduro, who accused him of turning Argentina into “an economic colony.”
Immediately afterwards, the Bolivarian president redoubled the bet: “Milei is a construct, it is a elaboration of Zionism and Trumpism to test a colonization project of a country as important and as great as our sister Argentina”.
Meanwhile, the mega DNU with economic deregulation measures continues to generate reactions from the opposition, which pressures the President to annul the decree and debate the modifications in the National Congress.
Far from backing down with the decree, Milei sent this Wednesday to the Chamber of Deputies the draft “Law of Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of Argentines”, known as the omnibus law, in which he asks Congress to declare the public emergency in economic, financial, fiscal, pension, security, defense, tariff, energy, health, administrative and social matters until December 31, 2025.
In the text, which contains a series of initiatives contemplated in the DNU that he wrote last week, he establishes that the period for the emergency may be extended by the national Executive Branch for a maximum period of two years.
Throughout the project, tax reforms will be established, the application of the formula to update salaries will be suspended, and sanctions will be imposed on protests, among other measures.
The project modifies the Penal Code and includes an electoral chapter where primary, simultaneous and mandatory open elections are repealed, the Anti-Corruption Office is modified, the political party regime, and the composition of the Chamber of Deputies are changed.
