The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has proposed a series of possible changes to football rules that could be implemented in the coming years. Among these proposals is the so-called ‘Wenger Law’ for offside, as well as the idea of cautioning anyone who approaches the referee who is not the captain, who They will be discussed at the next meeting scheduled for the first months of 2024.
One of the most striking rules being considered is the introduction of the ‘white card’. This cardboard could result in a player being temporarily removed from the field of play for 10 or 15 percent of the total match time. Although this rule has been tested in amateur football since its approval in 2017, it has not yet received official confirmation for its application in professional leagues.
According to reports from L’Equipe, Eric Borghini, president of the Federal Commission of Referees in France, has expressed its support for the implementation of this measure. “My feeling is that this temporary exclusion, which we already practice in certain leagues and districts, is interesting,” Borghini commented. “The response I receive from amateur football is quite satisfactory”. France could thus become a pioneer in testing this new measure among the main football leagues.
