The director of the Center for Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies of the Ministry of Health (CCAES), Fernando Simón, assured this Wednesday that the end of masks in transport will arrive “soon” and in a term “very short” time, for “next week or the week after”.
“The decision is not mine alone and the proposals come from technicians, experts and autonomous communities“, indicated the head of health alerts to journalists in Zaragoza, where he participates in the round table “Truth and lies, binary code of democracy”, organized by the LAAAB of the Aragonese executive.
So far, the recommendation of the presentation of the alert was keep them safe until the end of the acute infection season, around March, and pending the impact that the epidemic of infections in China may have after the abandonment of the zero Covid strategy.
But in recent weeks they have resumed the debate – which is still ongoing – given the stability of the epidemiological situation in Spain, which the Christmas holidays have not altered, according to sources from this technical body at Efe .
In fact, Simon indicated that what happened in “the last few weeks in China has complicated the situation”but even so, he indicated that the removal of the face mask is imminent: “I believe that in a very short period of time, I don’t know if next week or the week after, the mandatory use of the mask will be removed .”

But the director of the CCAES made a point of specifying that “The message is not that the mask will be removed, but that now the population must be much more responsible”.
“When we have symptoms, we must use it responsibly and whether we are also at-risk or vulnerable groups. We need to understand that our health somehow affects the health of others, especially when there is an infectious disease involved,” he added.
