An auction for the rights to the film took place over the course of several days, and Seinfeld’s relationship with Netflix’s Ted Sarandos was helpful in getting the deal to the streamer. Seinfeld signed a lucrative deal with Netflix in 2017 that brought his interview series Comedians in cars drinking coffee to Netflix and stand-up specials Jerry before Seinfeld and 23 hours to kill.
Here’s Everything We Know About Netflix no frost until now:
What is the plot and background of Unfrosted: The Story of Pop Tarts?
Seinfeld explained the film’s modest pandemic-related origins in an interview with Deadline:
“Stuck at home watching endless sad faces on TV, I thought it would be a good time to do something based on pure nonsense. So we took my stand-up Pop-Tart part from my latest Netflix special and blew it up into a giant, wacky comedy movie.”
Jerry deconstructed the joke in the following video:
Along with the cast reveal for the film, Netflix also provided additional information on what exactly the film is about:
“Michigan, 1963. Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, compete to create a cake that will change the face of breakfast forever.
A story of ambition, betrayal, sugar and menacing milkmen.
Is it based on a true story? Kind of. In November 2022, Seinfeld explained:
“…there are a couple of elements that are true that we used to start the story, which is that Post came up with this idea and Kellogg’s found out and said, ‘We have to do the same thing.’ And then I told the story as The right thing with NASA against the Soviet Union.

What is the production status of Unfrosted: The Story of Pop Tarts?
As of September 2021, the plan was the production of no frost to begin in spring 2022.
In March 2022, we received word via Variety Insight that the plan is for the film to begin production on May 25, 2022 and run through July 1, 2022.
The movie will be shot entirely in Los Angeles, California, as revealed by the tax credits being announced for the project. According to the California Film Commission, the project received $14.2 million in tax credits. Unfrosted is projected to generate “an estimated $69.4 million in qualifying expenses.”
Jerry Seinfeld, in the announcement, said:
“We are very happy to get the California tax credit that allows us to make all of our film there,” said Seinfeld, who is also writing, directing and producing the film for Netflix. “Having done the entire ‘Seinfeld’ series in Los Angeles, I really wanted to go back and shoot there again. On behalf of everyone working on the film, we really appreciate the big welcome.”
Numerous stills from the production can be found online, including this image of Jerry Seinfeld on set sporting business attire. The DailyMail also saw Hugh Grant disguised on set as Kellogg’s mascot Tony the tiger.
Some eyewitnesses on Twitter found the production filming in late June at UC Irvine’s Alrich Hall, making it Kellogg’s headquarters.

What is the Netflix release date? Unfrosted: The Story of Pop Tarts?
Netflix has not announced a release date for no frost, but it is expected to be in 2023 or 2024.
In November 2022, Seinfeld spoke to The Hollywood Report, stating at the time:
“Netflix is watching it today for the first time after I just finished editing and then we’ll see where it is next week. It should be out early next year. Believe.”
It’s worth noting that the movie remains out of Netflix’s doc for 2023 movies, but numerous reports I suggest the movie is released in 2023. Fingers crossed.
In May 2023, the film received its official age rating from the MPA, rated PG-13 for some suggestive references and language.
