Zachary Treitz to Direct Duplass Brothers Documentary for Netflix

The first details have emerged about a new documentary in development on Netflix from the Duplass brothers.

The new documentary will come from Duplass Brothers Productions (owned by Jay and Mark Duplass), who have worked with Netflix on multiple projects since 2015.

The couple signed an SVOD deal for several movies (which remain on Netflix albeit without the Netflix Original branding), including blue jay, take me, creep 2, duck butterand outside in. On the Netflix original script side, they have produced padelton and Horse with the Netflix Original branding for the service. In February 2018, the couple signed a photo of four deal with Netflix.

On the documentary side, Duplass Brothers Productions was behind Evil Genius: The True Story of America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist and wild wild country.


Details are scant about the currently announced new untitled documentary.

We have a first logline and some of the real life figures that will appear throughout:

“A journalist uncovers a series of political conspiracies from the 1980s that lead him into an underworld of spies, con artists and criminals.”

Zachary Treitz He is linked to directing, having worked as a director on a couple of short films in addition to the 2015 war comedy-drama, men go to battle. Other credits include The pleasure of being robbed, daddy long legsand john is gone.

maggie ambrosio and raquel valden are listed as producers in the project. abby harri he serves as a casting director.

The documentary will be a hybrid in that it will feature a more traditional documentary style with archival footage and testimonials, as well as reenactments with actors, which they have been curating for the last month.

Among the papers is Netflix currently broadcasting for the documentary include:

  • Edén Pastora “Comandante Cero” of the Sandinista Revolution – Strong, handsome and confident Central American Commander.
  • “John”, who is described as “impregnable and uses a hypnotic golly shucks attitude to hide his mysterious intentions.”
  • “Jimmy” – The next-door neighbor whose desire to be a tough guy drives him crazy.
  • Joe B, Fred, William C – Three indigenous men from the Cahuilla Nation.

The new documentary is filmed in mid-April 2023 in the Los Angeles area. Some sources cite that the documentary will film his
