Five Argentine tourists died and two others were injured this Sunday in a traffic accident that occurred on a route that connects Puerto Aventuras with Tulum, in the state of Quintana Roo, in Mexico. According to local media information, a citizen of that country also lost his life.

The incident occurred at 1:00 p.m., local time, in front of the Palladium Hotel, on the road that is part of the Riviera Maya-Cancun tourist corridor, where a van transporting the victims collided head-on with a vehicle that was serving as a transportation vehicle. passengers.

As confirmed by the State Attorney General’s Office, the driver of the vehicle where the Argentine tourists were traveling lost control due to the wet pavement, crossed into the opposite lane and ended up colliding with the Van.

The five Argentines were on vacation and the Mexican victim was the driver of the transport van, reported Jorge Vázquez Oropeza, secretary of Civil Protection of the municipality of Solidaridad, part of the tourist area.

The emergency forces carried out various maneuvers to rescue the victims, making it necessary to close traffic. The injured were taken by helicopter to the hospital.

The two injured Argentine citizens who were in the crashed truck were hospitalized. One of them was under observation with “apparent minor injuries,” while the other person was undergoing surgery.

According to Argentine Foreign Ministry sources, Security and Rescue personnel carried out tasks at the scene of the crash and the intervening Prosecutor’s Office was working on the case.

Likewise, the Argentine Consulate in Playa del Carmen “is working on site, while the Foreign Ministry maintains contact with family members in the Republic in order to provide containment and assistance.” The identities of the victims have not yet been officially released.

The Attorney General’s Office of Quintana Roo reported, for its part, that it opened an investigation to determine the causes of the accident.
