The general secretary of Metges de Catalunya (MC), Xavier Leonart, ratified the call for the two days of health strike scheduled for January 25 and 26 and asked the Generalitat “concretion and ordering” proposals aimed at improving the situation of workers and cancel the mobilizations. The union had dissociated itself in December from the agreement concluded between employers and unions of the concerted health.

He said so in statements to reporters after this afternoon’s meeting in which the Minister of Health of the Generalitat, Manel Balcells, the deputy director of the Catalan Health Service (CatSalut), Alfredo Garcia, and the Secretary General of Health, Merce Salvat, among other representatives of the department.

After three hours of meeting at the Ministry of Health, Lleonart indicated that they are “at the start of the roadof negotiation.

“There is still a lot of work to do, but we are better than yesterday because there is an open dialogue channel and a mutual understanding and recognition regarding the problems and the proposals we have made to solve them, and from there we are at the expense of what can happen in the next meetings,” he added.

He clarified that they “share the diagnosis” with the Ministry of Health and that they saw “desire to reach an agreement for the good of the citizens“, but there is not yet a “sufficient level of specification” to cancel the strike of January 25 and 26, underlined Lleonart.

“The strike continues because to call it off we need more precision and a timetable for it, and we don’t have one at the moment,” he said.

After an unsuccessful meeting on Wednesday, the two parties met next Monday continue negotiations two days before the start of the strike.
