The resistance of a sector of the PRO to integration into the Government of Javier Milei grows

While the format of the agreement is being defined to deepen the integration of the PRO in the Government of Javier Milei, a sector of the party founded by Mauricio Macri advances its rejection of that convergence. Beyond the objections of some of the leaders about the costs and the risk of diluting the identity, others go further and question it in other terms: “It would be going against the values that the PRO always represented.”

Milei confirmed his decision to advance a more defined alliance with the PRO during his tour of Israel and Italy. In principle, she rejected the creation of a co-government, although she did not rule out the incorporation of transcendent names into the Executive – from María Eugenia Vidal and Diego Santilli to Cristian Ritondo – and the formation of an interblock in Deputies. A reset of her government, after the failure of the Omnibus Law in the vote in particular.

In the last hours, the version circulated that Milei, upon his return to the country, would meet with Macri to finish defining the agreement. However, the former president does not plan to return from Villa La Angostura before next weekend. Calls and WhatsApp exchanges are frequent. In turn, Patricia Bullrich came out to push what demonstrated an “almost natural alliance” and assured that the merger could even be crystallized into a single party.

Another sector of the PRO, on the other hand, resists integration and suggests that if it comes to fruition it will remain outside the assembly. From that pole they warned that the ruling party, contrary to its objective of strengthening its position in Congress, I would risk losing allies because it would not retain the support of the entire bloc, as happened with the Omnibus Law project.

“The PRO from its origins was the party of tolerance, diversity, openness, dialogue, of listening to different opinions. We were always very respectful of the institutions, focused on management, we believe in the management of the State. This guy represents the opposite. All of this is distorted in Milei’s management”, they argued near Horacio Rodríguez Larreta.

The former head of the Buenos Aires Government conveyed that on the economic level he agrees on the need to achieve fiscal balance – although he questions the absence of a development project – but it is difficult for him to ignore the differences in what he considers central to evaluating the alliance: “It is difficult to see the fusion when there are such different values on fundamental issues.”

In the macrismo they discount that Rodríguez Larreta will not be part of the new scheme and there will be a detachment. “We understand that you are not going to feel included. With what he said, it was clear that he is part of the status quo and not the change.“, he dedicated a reference close to the former president, in reference to his words when the project fell in Deputies.

Today it was demonstrated: without dialogue, there are no laws. Both consensus and management are values that this Government despises”Rodríguez Larreta had pointed out. Both in that statement and in the rejection of the confluence of the PRO with La Libertad Avanza, the leaders of the sector argued that they did not modify the position they had been maintaining: “Horacio said it to the point of boredom in the campaign, we are in the same place as always ”.

Rodríguez Larreta maintains ties with Martín Lousteau and Gerardo Morales – the radicals with the most oppositional profile -, recently he met with Facundo Manes – he voted against the project – and he met with governors such as Maximiliano Pullaro from Santa Fe and Claudio from San Luis . Poggi.

In the block of deputies, for the moment they are waiting for confirmation of the agreement and, in that case, the format. The most critical of the Government reject the formation of an interbloc with the ruling party. “So that? So that we can work with our experience? It’s already happened with the law, they had no one to defend it,” said one of the legislators.

The representatives of the bench and those mentioned with the possibility of joining the Executive did not receive news in that regard. “It is one thing to help you, to accompany a law, another is to co-govern. “You are assuming the values of this government, with an aggressive type, who insults a selective caste, because his friends are not caste,” said another leader who questioned whether the 37 PRO deputies voted in favor in general and in particular – endorse integration.
