How the free vaccination strategy against dengue works in Misiones

With the aim of confronting the dengue outbreak in northeastern Argentina, which accounts for more than 90% of the total cases in the country, Misiones began on January 16. a first stage of free vaccination against dengue for people from 20 to 40 years old. Thus, it became the first province in the country to vaccinate for free, since Salta later joined on January 31.

The government of Misiones announced that since the beginning of the campaign, a total of 7,843 requests to receive the dengue vaccine have been registered. These consultations represent the first step in the vaccination process, as they allow an initial evaluation to determine the suitability of applicants for a medical review.

Of the 7,843 calls received, 1,727 people were identified as suitable candidates to advance in the process and were contacted through outgoing video calls through the AlegraMED application, facilitating the assignment of appointments and the performance of medical evaluations.

With the application, specialized in telemedicine, missionaries can request the vaccine against the disease transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito for free, quickly and easily.

The vaccination plan It consists of two doses, with an interval of three months between each of them. Between 6 to 8 days after the first dose is administered, the health status of each individual who received the vaccine is evaluated.

All missionaries between 20 and 40 years of age with medical indication and who, at the time of inoculation, do not present fever or symptoms related to dengue disease, can request the vaccine. This age group corresponds to the first stage of the campaign because, according to specialists, it is the population most affected by the outbreaks and, in addition, the largest group that is actively working.

“The request for appointments is made exclusively through AlegraMed, whose team of specialists are in charge of analyzing whether the patient is suitable to receive the vaccine. From there, the application itself will provide the appointment according to the available spaces,” he explained. the Minister of Public Health of Misiones, Héctor González.

From the platform they pointed out that the “initiative seeks to strengthen the immunization of the population, as well as contribute to the prevention and control of the disease in the province.”

In any case, they remembered that citizen collaboration and the efficient organization to eliminate the vector found in homes They are essential to achieve a positive impact in the fight against dengue.

“Our purpose is to transform and improve a field as delicate and challenging as health. In the past, we managed to do so successfully by vaccinating against COVID-19 and now we find ourselves carrying out a new challenge such as the campaign against dengue,” said Eugenia Galván, general manager of AlegraMed.
