The government of Spain ordered that the use of the mask becomes temporarily mandatory again in hospitals and health centersthe country due to the increase in cases of winter viruses such as the flu, reported the Ministry of Health.

Mónica García, the minister, met this Monday with the different autonomous communities and at the end of the meeting she uploaded to her X account explanations of why they adopted the measure. She even said that they did not rule out extending it also to pharmacies.

Given the “notable increase in respiratory virus infections,” we urge “the mandatory nature of masks in health and social health spaces,” stated García, according to the AFP agency.

“This recommendation is especially relevant in situations of indoor crowds and especially in hospitals and health centers.” The minister said that the mask has proven to be very effective in preventing infections during the Covid pandemic.

The proposal was discussed this Monday with health representatives from the different Spanish regions to “take coordinated public health actions in the face of these epidemic peaks,” he said.

The regions have “the competence” and the “responsibility to implement adequately” to face this situation, clarified the head of the health portfolio.

The region of Valencia and of Catalonia announce that it will be mandatory in their health centers.

Spanish doctors have been sounding the alarm for several days about the increase in cases of flu, Covid-19 and other respiratory viruses, especially in the east of the country.
