The Córdoba municipality of General Cabrera, with just over 15 thousand inhabitants, launched a rather atypical campaign against noise pollution. Not only did he ban motorcycles that have exhaust pipes considered noisy, but he also organized a massive destruction: They lined them all up on the main street and ran over them with a bulldozer. They went pim pum pam for the last time.

The campaign started at the end of December, but went viral after a video was uploaded to Twitter this week. Most of the comments were complimentary.

Specifically, the measure arises from an ordinance issued in the municipality of Cabrera, which prohibits the circulation of motorcycles that have adulterated elements. It is one of the biggest complaints from the neighbors, who protest against the noise they make when crossing the streets at full speed.

That is why they became stricter in their control and began to seize motorcycles that were carrying adulterated items. The vehicle is detained, a fine is charged and it is not returned until the owner appears with the papers in order and the original exhaust pipe if necessary.

“On Mondays we have very long lines at the Transit gate, with all the people who appear with the original pipe under their arm, but sometimes we can’t give them to them because they don’t have the rest of the papers. I do not give a motorcycle without an original exhaust pipe,” commented Nancy Ulagnero, General Cabrera’s foul judge in a note with the local FM La Voz de la Amistad.

“The motorcycles have modifications, pitted raid jars, which is where the annoying noises come out and cause harmful damage to the population. Especially at dawn, which is when people complain,” commented the official before moving forward with the destruction. .

In total, some 41 leak pipes were destroyed, which were seized throughout 2023. They were placed on Buenos Aires Boulevard, one of the central streets of the town, and they were passed over.

Beyond the spectacle, it is not the first time that the municipality has gone against motorcycles. In March of last year there was a massive auction of motorcycles that were seized and had never been removed. “Those who were not in a position to return to the streets were destroyed,” they stated from the municipality led by Guillermo Cavigliasso (JxC).

“We seek to raise awareness that they are a problem, because they are prohibited. We are seeking to control them, there are many that do not meet requirements,” police sources tell Clarín. Other neighboring municipalities are also moving forward with similar provisions.
